The
International League of Muslim Women, Inc. promotes unity, and inspire
a sense of security among women, while striving to promote healthy,
progressive life in our communities. We can accomplish our mission
by utilizing individual and collective potentials, striving to create
a better place for families.
From humble beginnings, we have identified the need, located, purchased
and renovated the fist Muslim home for seniors. Our Pioneer House
in Detroit became a reality through the steadfast efforts of League
founders, members and volunteers. It has been funded through many
fundraising events, pledges and donations.
To enable the various emergency shelters for the homeless and battered
women, educational and recreational programs to be established and
maintained, there have been numerous auctions, dinners, skating
parties and plays, sponsored.
The League now has grown to include over 23 chapters nationally
and 4 internationally. New chapters have adopted programs established
by Headquarters (Detroit) and have developed programs unique to
their areas. For example, the Buffalo Chapter has initiated the
Bonding Series Program for women and youth in an interfaith community
forum and acted as a liaison for refugees in schools, clinics and
social service agencies to expedite their acclimation to the new
American culture, the Birmingham, Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles,
Norfolk and Memphis chapters have worked with battered, incarcerated,
mentally ill and homeless women and have established social outreach
programs that have been highly effective and of great benefit to
their respective communities.
The International League of Muslim Women is made up of sisters who
care and are concerned about others. Allah has blessed us to carve
a pathway to services and support for parents and children. When
resources are needed there are connections and linkages which have
been made through the efforts of hard working sisters.
We work though Education, Public Relations, Social Services, Research,
Fundraising and Cultural Critique Committees and recently established
Property Management and Proposal Writing Committees.
We are now working to increase the number of adoptive and foster
homes for children and to establish chapters in every city throughout
the world.
If it is the will of Allah, and in keeping with our creed, we shall
continue to work in the spirit of unity, collective work and responsibility,
self-determination, creativity an faith.
We are grateful for the opportunity to work to benefit humanity
and we ask for your support and prayers that we may continue.
Thank you,
Sahirah Muhammad
